MADOCA tear-resistant, translucent Japanese paper composite material

universal for shoji, lamps and lampshades, panel and vertical blinds, calligraphy and printing

MADOCA consists of 2 extra-thin sheets of shoji paper and a middle layer of plastic (PET film), which makes the paper almost untearable. It can even be sewn.

  • Covering shoji frames: stick on with double-sided adhesive tape
  • sewing, plotting, punching, printing, braiding, folding, laminating...
  • for painting and writing, for ink painting and calligraphy
  • printable (screen printing, UV digital printing,...)

Notes on stringing:

These instructions and the following notes apply to all Japanese papers with plastic films on the inside or outside, in thicknesses of 0.2 and 0.3 mm (MADOCA, MADOCA PP, Warlon Sheets, Saico Sheets)

  • The material reacts to changes in temperature. When heated, it expands. This can cause the tension to decrease, which may result in warping or wrinkling. The wider the spacing between the rungs, the greater this risk.
  • Therefore, during processing, the ambient air, the paper, and the frames to be mounted must be at least as warm as the expected maximum temperature at the location where they will be used.
    • In other words: If you’re mounting the material on frames intended, for example, to serve as sunshades in an attic, expect temperatures of 40–60 degrees on sunny days. To prevent the tension from slackening, work with the paper at a similar temperature—in the sun, place a space heater near your work area, or warm the paper in the veneer press. And work quickly.
  • When mounting paper on frames with individual panels larger than 30 x 40 cm, be sure to place sheets cut to size in each of the crossbar sections to prevent the paper from sagging during the mounting process.
  • Use only suitable and tested adhesive tapes; do not use nails, screws, staples, or wood glue.
