Description

AKARUKU TSUYOI Shiro AT21 Shoji paper pure white

pure white, light and highly translucent shoji paper with a fine structure,
2-fold tear resistance

Shoji papers are thin, translucent, translucent white or natural-colored Japanese papers. They are particularly suitable for covering lattice frames, screens and sliding shoji doors. Shoji papers scatter and distribute sunlight and the light from lamps or fluorescent tubes beautifully, so that they can be used to create large light objects easily and inexpensively. Despite their high translucency, shoji papers are largely opaque. Shoji papers are glued to wooden frames with a removable natural tapioca-based starch paste and then lightly moistened. They then stretch themselves as they dry.

The shoji papers in the AKARUKU TSUYOI (AT) series are pure white, affordable shoji papers with twice the tear resistance of the most basic shoji papers made from pulp and viscose fibers. AKARUKU TSUYOI is Japanese for “bright and sturdy.”

Due to the addition of approx. 20% polyester fibers, they not only have higher strength values compared to simple shoji papers, but also react less to fluctuations in humidity. AT shoji papers therefore lose less tension in humid climates. In addition, papers with synthetic fiber content are relatively tear-resistant even when wet. These properties make AKARUKU TSUYOI shoji papers easy to process and very robust despite their low grammage. They can therefore also be used for covering somewhat larger individual surfaces.

AT21 Shoji paper is ideal for use as Japanese paper in lampshades, light screens, and for covering Shoji sliding doors and folding screens. It is also used for calligraphy, sumi-e, printing, and a variety of craft projects.
