Shoji papers are thin, translucent, off-white or natural-colored Japanese papers used primarily to cover lattice frames, folding screens, and shoji sliding doors. Shoji papers beautifully diffuse and scatter light from lamps or fluorescent tubes, making it easy and inexpensive to create even large light installations with them. Despite their high translucency, shoji papers are largely opaque. Shoji papers are adhered to wooden frames using a removable natural starch paste and then lightly moistened. They then stretch taut on their own as they dry.

The TS series of shoji papers are pure white, affordable shoji papers with twice the tear resistance (compared to the most basic shoji papers made from pulp and viscose fibers).

Due to the addition of approx. 20% polyester fibers, they not only have higher strength values compared to simple shoji papers, but also react less to fluctuations in humidity. They therefore lose less tension in humid climates. In addition, papers with synthetic fiber content are relatively tear-resistant even when wet. These properties make TS Shoji papers easy to process. Despite their low grammage, they are very robust and can also be used for covering somewhat larger individual surfaces.

TS Shoji paper is ideal as Japanese paper for lampshades, light-filtering ceiling panels, and for covering shoji sliding doors and screens.
